Heber's fish, Gill, died on Saturday. I planned on getting a friend for Gill for Heber to discover on Easter morning, but when we got home from an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, I discovered the dead fish.
We decided not to say anything that night and Laura and I went out hoping to find a fish that looked similar to Gill. :)
We didn't find one that looked like him.
We brought home 2 new fish and hoped he'd be content. I decided to stick with my plan of having the fish tank be a clue in his Easter morning treasure hunt. In the middle of his clues he ran to the fish tank. From our bedroom Brian and I could hear him saying, "Gill, Gill, Gill!"
Then he came running in our room crying asking where Gill was! It was so sad!
I explained to him that Gill died and we tried to find another fish that looked like him. He then had a lot of questions about death and where Gill was and what would happen to him. On a small scale, it made for a great lesson for Easter morning.
During our Easter Sunday meeting I kept thinking about Heber's disappointment and how sad he was. After church I was sitting in the van with the kids and I said, "Heber I am so grateful that I know about Jesus and know where people go when they die and that because of Him we can be resurrected....I would be so sad if I didn't know that."
Then Heber said, "It's okay mom. If you didn't know that, I would tell you."
Nice Easter.

It's a shame Derden died.
Oh Gill
What a great lesson!
That's so funny. I love how kids know more than us!!
That Heber is just a treasure!
Cute boy. I just love how smart and innocent they are at this age.
I love this.
