I should write a book on defensive sleeping. I ADORE Brian. He is wonderful! He is my best friend, a wonderful husband and dad, and a total hotty. All that said, I have to protect myself at night so I don't get so mad that I try to push him off the bed!
For the last 6 years I haven't been sleeping as well as I should. I always have to make sure there is some amount of blanket between my feet and legs, and his razor toes. One jab could prove nightmarish for him for at least the next day.
I also have to build a blanket fort between my head and his head. This helps so he won't breath and/or cough on me. I used the roll when he rolls technique to avoid this, but I found that fort building allowed for a deeper sleep for me.
He also gets air when he rolls over. This isn't a big deal and I don't get mad ... unless I am pregnant. Last year....about 7 months into the pregnancy with Jack we put another twin bed in our room so I could sleep. It was great.
Now we have found such a great solution and are still able to sleep in the same bed! We have separate blankets. It is great. He likes it because he doesn't have to worry about taking too many blankets and I love it because I don't have to constantly guard myself. haha. I sleep so well now. It took 6 years, but we have done it!

Didn't you guys get a King size bed?
I want a king size bed. Now.
Yeah, we got a king size bed. That helped a lot, but I think the blankets do more of a difference.
That is funny. Sean and I are pretty good bedmates. The only weird thing is i sometimes talk in my sleep. Sean also sleeps in really weird positions that look painful to me but are apparently comfortable. But those things are just entertaining. It's fun to look over and laugh.
Haha! I have a similar problem. I have learned to sleep on my right side most of the night (which sometimes gives me a cramp in my arm) but I have the best sleep when my husband wakes up early. :) I feel for you.
I'm wondering why we didn't get a king bed when I've got two little ones squeezed in the middle some mornings. At least you don't have that problem right? Smart idea with the blankets. Have you tried a body pillow?
